Hawaiʻi Firm Leads Development of International Business Sustainability Resource Document - Linking

Sustainable Pacific — in collaboration with ISOS Group LLC, and other LEED and GRI experts from around the globe— is pleased to announce the release of the first international resource document that links the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The document titled, “Linking LEED with GRI: How Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Aligns with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI),” provides business leaders and professionals using the GRI or LEED frameworks with a reference point when aligning efforts and packaging performance measures.
GRI is a network-based international nonprofit organization that produces the world’s most widely used sustainability and CSR (corporate social responsibility) reporting framework. The GRI Guidelines are used by corporate businesses, public agencies, non-governmental organizations, industry groups, small enterprises, municipal governments and other entities as a basis for providing transparency in the areas of economic, environmental, social and governance performance. LEED is a leading international green building rating and certification system developed and managed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED certification is administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), which provides third-party verification of green buildings.
The “Linking LEED with GRI” document includes descriptions of GRI and LEED. It provides narrative summaries that compare GRI reporting and LEED certification, describes synergies, and includes areas where the two frameworks overlap. In addition, users will be able to download an extensive, comprehensive GRI-LEED linkage table that shows the direct overlap and relationships between GRI indicators and LEED credits.
Sustainable Pacific will be presenting the document at the 2014 Greenbuild Conference in New Orleans in October. They also plan to present the document in Honolulu this fall and begin offering training on corporate and organizational sustainability in 2015.
